Both sides of the mouth

I was reading on Internet news recently about one ramification of the “cliff” agreement where Ari Fleischer, President George W. Bush’s press secretary, said he would give less to charity under the new agreement because he could claim less of it as tax deductions. Isn’t that talking out of both sides of the mouth? On the one side most of our Republican elected officials say Democrats want to raise taxes on everything. Then on the other side when taxes actually get cut, they complain about the cut. Why do I get the feeling that our Republican elected officials only care about defeating anything that might have even a hint that a Democrat is behind it? These elected officials need to have the integrity to represent the people and not the party. And I have come to the conclusion that more Democratic elected officials actually carry out this duty than do our Republican elected officials. Republicans just say “no” unless it is their idea.
