A power outage knocked out electricity for approximately 11,000 customers on Bend’s north side shortly after 7 p.m., though power was restored to most areas by 9:30 p.m.
Pacific Power reported a lightning strike caused the outage, initially taking out electricity along Northeast Butler Market Road and the surrounding area, including area codes 97701, 97702, 97707, 97708 and 97709.
Sgt. Clint Burleigh with the Bend Police Department said power was down along Third Street from at least Olney Avenue to Robal Road, including several traffic lights.
With little moonlight, drivers were limited to the use of their own headlights to navigate through the area, he said.
“It was dark. It was like it was in the Old West Days. It was dark,” said Burleigh.
As of nearly 10 p.m., no crashes had been reported as a result of the outage, Burleigh said. When traffic lights are out, drivers are advised to treat signalized intersections as four-way stops, he said.
