The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim in Saturday's slaying southeast of Sisters.
The woman, identified as 78-year-old Carolyn Burdick, was found dead in her home on Kent Road in the Cloverdale area on Saturday evening.
Burdick was a horse breeder and on Sunday, more than a dozen horses were grazing on the property.
According to police, Joshua Leo Jokinen, a 30-year-old from Pendleton, called police dispatch from Madras to report he had killed a woman near Sisters. Madras Police contacted him and arrested him on a probation violation. In the meantime, deputies in Deschutes County responded to a report that Burdick had been found dead in her home, and subsequently Jokinen was arrested on suspicion of murder and lodged in the Deschutes County jail, where he remains.
