A Redmond man is accused of stealing about 20 tires from behind a Bend car dealership early Sunday morning.
Christopher Hansen, 46, was being held without bail Monday night at the Deschutes County jail, said a deputy at the jail. He is charged with first-degree theft and a parole violation.
A security guard with Patrol Services International spotted a car pulling a trailer full of tires at around 2:45 a.m. at Smolich Motors on U.S. Highway 20 in Bend, according to the Bend-based company. The guard then followed the car to Redmond while calling police.
Redmond Police officers stopped the car on Southeast 10th Street at Southeast Veterans Way in Redmond, said Lt. Keith Knight of the Redmond Police Department. There, they arrested Hansen at about 3:15 a.m.
There were about 20 tires in the trailer and while they were stored behind Smolich Motors, Sgt. Jason Maniscalco of the Bend Police Department said they belonged to Hertz Car Sales of Bend.
