Building on the success of its addition of indoor climbing programs two years ago, the Bend Endurance Academy is expanding its current climbing programs to include youth-based outdoor rock climbing.
“We really want to provide a safe opportunity for kids to start making the transition from climbing in an indoor setting of a commercial climbing gym to the outdoor setting of our local world-class crag of Smith Rock,” says Mike Rougeux, climbing program director for Bend Endurance Academy.
The programs will consist of a series of weekend clinics and a six-week program in the fall and again in the spring. Programs are designed for youth climbers ages 10 and older, who have an interest in experiencing climbing in the outdoors.
The first weekend clinic is scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday, and a six-week session runs Saturdays from Sept. 21 to Oct. 26.
Transportation to Smith Rock and back to Bend is included, and some loaner gear is available.
