Bend-based Strictly Organic Coffee Co. won a gold cup in the single-varietal category at the 2013 Best Coffee in Oregon competition at the Oregon State Fair, co-owner Rhonda Ealy said Wednesday.
The company competed against 30 other coffees. Rogue Coffee Roasters of Grants Pass was crowned Best Coffee in Oregon 2013 for its cumulative scores in three categories, according to the Best Coffee in Oregon website.
Ealy said the invitation-only competition required contestants to submit coffees that are regularly available to the public. Strictly Organic has competed in the competition twice before.
“This year, it was a double-blind tasting (by) people from the industry,” Ealy said. “It was pretty tough competition.”
