Suspended over some 200 feet, Caleb Houvener takes careful steps across a band of rope into the mouth of ”Monkey Face” at Smith Rock State Park.
Houvener, 19, traveled from Seattle to participate in the 2nd annual Smith Rock Highline Festival (Sep. 13 to Sep. 15). Around 80-100 amateur and professional athletes attended. The longest line, ”Overdose,” was 384 feet long. The highest line, ”The King Line,” was about 500 feet above the ground, and 188 feet long.
In highlining, people traverse a slackline that is strung many feet above the ground. Most highliners wear a safety harness with a leash that attaches to the line.
