Instead of 150,000 trucks carrying fill to the pumice pit though residential areas, figuring out how to pay to dredge Mirror Pond (more trucks), and continuing to live with a (toxic?) landfill in the middle of one of our most valuable neighborhoods, how about dealing with Bend’s big three issues in an integrated manner? Flood the pumice pit. Rename it “Mirror Lake.” Land around the lake becomes so valuable that some developer offers to reclaim the landfill. Let Mirror Pond “go natural.” Three problems (Mirror Pond, pumice pit, landfill) solved at minimal cost to the taxpayer.
