State council signs off on wind turbines

Published: June 26. 2011 4:00AM PST

PENDLETON — A siting committee in Eastern Oregon has approved the construction of up to 134 wind turbines at the Helix Wind Power Facility.

The East Oregonian reports the state Energy Facility Siting Council overrode concerns from neighbors of the site that the wind farm would drive down their property values and create more noise than the project estimates.

The council told the company behind the site, Iberdrola Renewables, to use the most conservative estimates in predicting how much noise each turbine will make.
