Wherever northern pike, bass and predatory browns prowl the shoreline, they can be tempted with poppers on the surface. Cork and foam work great, but for subtlety, try deer hair in a frog pattern like Goodale's Popper.

For bass and browns, go with 0X tippet; for pike, use a steel leader. Work it....
