Newest Nobel laureate discovered that cells were key to the immune system

Dr. Ralph Steinman, a cell biologist who was named one of three winners of the Nobel Prize in Medicine on Monday for his work on the human immune response, died Friday in New York, a fact unknown to the prize committee when it made its announcement. He was 68.
