Substance found in mail causes a scare

SALEM — The Salem Fire Department has determined that a pasty material found at the office of U.S. Rep. Kurt Schrader is not dangerous.

Salem fire spokesman Reed Godfrey says an office employee opened a letter Monday morning and found an unknown substance resembling paste on his hand.
