The interest rate for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages averaged 4.97 percent for the week ending March 4, with an average 0.7 point, down from 5.05 percent the prior week, Freddie Mac reported Thursday. Last year at this time, the 30-year fixed rate averaged 5.15 percent.
