Agency won’t list sage grouse, for now

Species only a candidate for endangered status

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Friday it would not list the High Desert-dwelling birds as threatened or endangered, even though they meet the qualifications, because other species have a higher priority.

Instead, sage grouse will be added to the candidate species list and continue....
