Richard H. Schwerbel was born on September 20, 1923, in DeSart, North Dakota, where he grew up on the family ranch.

He moved to Eugene and then to Terrebonne in 1967. He worked for Dan Kilgore farming and the Deschutes Farmers Co-op. He had his own hay hauling....
