More students homeless in Bend-La Pine, Redmond

For the 2008-09 school year, 709 Bend-La Pine students were homeless, up from 624 the previous school year, with the economy cited as the top culprit

Nearly 14 percent more students in Bend-La Pine Schools were homeless during the 2008-09 school year than in 2007-08, according to statistics released Friday by the Oregon Department of Education.

In 2008-09, 709 of the district's 15,837, students were homeless, up from 2007-08's 624 homeless....
