Madras anti-gas tax bid fails

Backers have until Sept. 10 to get enough signatures

The first attempt of a lobbyist to get enough signatures to put a gas tax in voters’ hands failed in Madras on Thursday.

But Paul Romain with the Oregon Petroleum Association, who wants to see the gas tax voted down, isn’t worried. More than 280 signatures were collected, and only 193 are needed....
