While there are no plans to close the school, some are afraid cutbacks will lead to that and are seeking charter school status

When Sarah Marsh and her family moved west from John Day, they considered several Central Oregon towns but settled on Powell Butte.

"We bought property in Powell Butte specifically for the school," Marsh said.
