When avid birders Craig and Marilyn Miller dropped off yard debris at Deschutes Recycling recently, they noticed movement around a pile of dirt.

Bank swallows, an uncommon sight in Central Oregon, were swooping in and out of nests dug into topsoil cliffs at Deschutes Recycling’s site....
