Bend sells bad buses, but it must pay to do it

An auctioneer’s paying $2,390, but shipping cost the city $4,800

Even in the end, the city of Bend lost money on its breakdown-plagued fleet of blue transit buses.

Nearly two years after a spate of mechanical problems took the six 1996 ElDorado Transmark buses off the road for good, the city has sold them to a Portland auctioneer to be resold for parts.
