What about fires on unprotected land?

350 homes on 175,000 acres in Deschutes County have no organized defense from wildfires. A proposal going before the County Commission aims to mitigate the risks.

In Deschutes County, there are about 175,000 acres of land without fire crews and equipment to respond to a structure fire or wildfire.

These unprotected areas have about 350 homes, are outside of fire districts and have no organized response to fires.
