Scenic Badlands at a snail’s pace

With a mostly sunny sky and a promised high in the upper 40s on Saturday, we loaded eats, drinks and selves into the van and headed east on U.S. Highway 20 to the Badlands Wilderness Study Area.

Our destination: Dry River Canyon, which, we would soon learn, was about to close for six months. But....
