A tiny mayfly called the Blue Winged Olive (or BWO) provides a significant amount of wintertime protein on western trout streams. In fact, you can find a hatch of BWOs at any time of the year.
Overcast days are best. Prospect the pockets, and the slicks next to riffled water close to boulders....
