Badlands moves closer to approval

The U.S. Senate moved forward legislation Sunday that would set aside more than 2 million acres as wilderness in nine states, including about 40,000 acres in Central Oregon that encompass the Badlands east of Bend and the Spring Basin wilderness on the John Day River.
