Reviving the economy top job for Legislature

Jobless rate has reached 8 percent; economists predict double digits

SALEM — With a deepening recession casting a pall over the proceeding, Oregon lawmakers return to the Capitol on Monday for the start of a 2009 session in which they will look for ways to create jobs and try to avoid painful cuts in social services and other programs.
