Those little black plates on Bend roads give the city an idea of how you drive

Counters use magnetic imaging to record detailed traffic data

About the size of a paperback book, the small black plates can be seen on side streets and major roads across town, bolted to the asphalt in the middle of traffic. In a few days, they disappear, only to pop up elsewhere.

What are they?

Traffic counters.
