Horse abandonment expected to increase

BAKER CITY — Oregon livestock officials say they expect more horses to be abandoned in Oregon this winter as the economy tightens, hay prices climb and people can’t afford to feed them.

State Veterinarian Don Hansen said abandonment increased last year as prices rose.
