Despite being a bit of a rock- hound, Steph Bonson had never heard of fulgurite until Sunday.
As Bonson looked at twisting tubes of sand-covered glass, Matthew Potts told her how basalt sand liquefies when lightning strikes it. When the sand cools, the dark glass tubes are the end result.
