Reroute redux

Redmond’s isn’t the region’s first. When U.S. Highway 97 through Bend moved to Third Street in 1962, downtown changed forever.

When Bill Baer Jr. was a boy, he and his friends rode their bikes to Third Street in east Bend to go hunting. They parked their bikes behind a hardware store full of goods for area farmers and hunted a loop east around Pilot Butte and back.
