There was the Oregon grape with its spiny leaves. The cornflower, standing blue and tall, the Western prairie clover with its purple fuzz, and, of course, the paintbrush.
The paintbrush, with long stalks of green leaves giving way to orange and red blooms, was a unanimous favorite.
