Hop chemist Francis Lloyd Rigby helped brewing basics

YAKIMA, Wash. — Francis Lloyd Rigby, a hop chemist and pioneer in the industry that produces the bitter flavoring for beer, has died at age 89.

Rigby died Saturday at his Yakima home.
