A Deschutes man secures a wind turbine — but it sure wasn’t easy

ALFALFA — Kent Whiteaker was not trying to be an energy pioneer when he decided to put a wind turbine in his back yard.

However, Whiteaker became the first Deschutes County resident to get land use approval for an energy-generating windmill. He said it was not an easy process.
