With snow melting, the season for prescribed burning started Wednesday, as U.S. Forest Service staff set fire to the underbrush at the site of the 1990 Awbrey Hall Fire near Widgi Creek.

The controlled burns are designed to clear shrubs and litter that build up under trees, so future wildfires....
