Big pregame purchases pad retailers’ sales stats

At Bend’s Fred Meyer last week, 26-year-old Ben Spaulding reclined in a leather sofa positioned in front of a big-screen TV. The seat was surrounded by walls of beer, soda, chips, pizza and other Super Bowl snacks.
