Winter bicycling

Now is the best time of year to mountain bike out on the desert to the east of Bend.

While the trails to the west are 4 to 8 feet under, the Badlands, Horse Ridge and the seemingly infinite, flat, wide-open land beyond is dust-free and beckoning.

Ride here in the summer and you can get bogged....
