Down syndrome advocate spread encouragement

Nancy Jane Roberts spent her life defying expectations.

When Roberts was born in 1938, “she was a Down syndrome person,” her sister Betsy Sime, 70, of Sunriver, said. At the time, many children with the condition were institutionalized, Sime said.
