Food bank shelves depleted as area demand skyrockets

Higher costs, government cuts are taking a bigger bite out of local nonprofit services

Twice in the past three months, empty shelves forced the La Pine Community Kitchen to close its food pantry.

“This is the first time it’s ever happened, the first year,” Director Christina Riggs said.
