Creamy Clam Chowder

3 lbs of clams with shells or about 1 lb of canned clams

4 oz bacon, diced

2 celery stalks, diced

5 scallions, sliced in thin rounds

2 large potatoes, peeled and cut into 1⁄2-inch cubes

1 C milk

1 C cream or whipping cream

Salt and freshly ground pepper
