Baby black bear 'acted like it didn’t have a care in the world,’ resident says

When Janis Martin heard her Jack Russell terrier barking Monday morning, she thought someone had come to the door.

Instead, she found a bear in her backyard.

A roughly 115-pound baby black bear was roaming near her house, about half a mile from High Desert Middle School in Bend, eating juniper....
