Bend woman is bitten by rabid bat

Officials encourage caution, respect Though bites are rare, local health officials urge residents to be cautious

A rabid bat flew through a screenless window and bit a Bend woman last weekend as she slept.

The 20-something woman called her health insurance provider, Jerry Mitch, owner of Apex Insurance, after getting bit Aug. 25, sought treatment and is doing fine.
