Scorching temps may melt standing record

Wednesday reached near-record highs for Central Oregon, said Stephen Latimer, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pendleton.

The mercury reached 98 degrees in Redmond, compared with a record of 105 for July 4, set in 1968.
