Landowners to pay more for fire costs

Higher fees for those with property in forests will go toward fighting blazes

SALEM — The cost of living in the woods of Oregon is about to get a little higher.

The state, the timber industry and an association of small woodland owners reached a deal last week that will increase by 25 percent the fees that rural landowners pay to combat wildfires.
