First-time kayakers and veterans alike hit the river for education

Before Sunday, Terri Gallo had never been in a kayak.

But like the dozen other people who gathered Sunday morning along the banks of the Deschutes River, she decided to brave it.

"I'm not very coordinated," said Gallo, of Bend. "But I think I can do this."
