County timber payments plan may get a one-year extension

WASHINGTON - Lawmakers opted for a scaled-back renewal of the far-reaching county timber subsidies, choosing a one-year extension over a five-year plan that had been passed by the Senate.

The current bill does not include a Senate-approved plan to spend about $2.8 billion to continue the county....
