USFS plan would thin area pines

Proposal could change the look of the forest east of Cascade Lakes Highway

Beetle-killed lodgepole pine trees along the Cascade Lakes Highway could be salvaged next year as part of a U.S. Forest Service effort to prevent uncontrollable wildfires.

A total of 6,000 acres east of the highway between Elk Lake and Crane Prairie Reservoir would be thinned under the proposal.....
