Protecting your drinking water

Dry wells help keep pollutants such as oil and bacteria out of Central Oregon's drinking water. But shortages in state funding and staffing have put their oversight in jeopardy.

Parking lots and city streets can get pretty dirty.

Cars leave trails of motor oil, brake fluid, coolants and materials from the wear and tear of tires. Microorganisms and bacteria can also collect on paved surfaces, along with metals like lead and zinc.

They're all washed away when storms hit.....
