U.S. House approves cutting interest rates for student loans

Oregon student debt averages $19,420

WASHINGTON - The U.S. House voted 356-71 Wednesday in favor of cutting interest rates on student loans.

The bill would lower the interest rate on subsidized Stafford loans over five years from 6.8 percent to 3.4 percent for college undergraduates.
