Prineville resident takes over first-year independent team

Wally Backman said he couldn't take it anymore, couldn't stay away from the game he loves.

"I was two years out of managing," Backman said, "and I was just beating my head against the wall."

He can stop that now and turn his attention instead to the new deli he and wife Sandi....
