Warm Springs' traditions clash with U.S. education standards

WARM SPRINGS - Elyse Bagley knew in advance that many of her fifth-grade classmates would be absent Thursday.

The death of a Warm Springs tribal elder earlier in the week foretold sparse school attendance, especially on the day of the burial ceremony.
