It all starts with what Emily Dickinson called "a Joy of Earth" - a letter. Or maybe, considering the time of year, a holiday card.

Thoughts are written on a page and then sealed, stamped and addressed. The envelope is dropped in a mailbox or picked up by a mail carrier.
